From the valley to the uplands, the highway and the home

Intrigued by the ways film scenes are orchestrated as story endings, we want to ask how “ends” become “means” of new emerging narratives. The region of the Middle East, Western Asia, North Africa in their particular natural, social, and cultural history, and its encounter with other parts of the world has become an important aspect in our work especially through collaborative projects.

In Helsinki, we physically and metaphorically transfer a selection of story endings from movies filmed in the regions mentioned above. In a walking episode where the script and silence of these scenes are recited at selected locations, we explore conditions of encounters, crossing seas and bridging experiences generated in places (different timescapes) and unfurling to host the historical present in this particular city.

The second facet of the work constitutes a photographic installation offering an intimate relationship between viewers and material that transposes.
